Acad. Dechko Uzunov High School of Fine Arts and Design - town of Kazanlak was established in 1968 as a branch of Sofia High School of Fine Arts. The first alumni graduated in 1972. Vihroni Popnedelev, Gancho Karabadzhakov, Svetla Moskova, Petko Moskov were some of the first alumni. Academician Dechko Uzunov was a guest of honor at the first graduation ceremony.

The school becomes an independent Secondary Vocation Art School of Industrial Design to the Ministry of Culture in 1974. The school is moved to a new building built especially for it in 1985 and it is used as a standard for all the applied arts schools. In memory of Academician Dechko Uzunov the School takes his name in 1987.

The Lute-Making Major (making and restoration of classical string instruments) was introduced in 1988.

31 alumni passed through the unique co-existence of the three majors: Design, Fine Arts and Lute-Making from 1968 till now. Many of them are famous artists and spread the fame of the Bulgarian creative genius all over the world. The School has the unique chance to find and train the young talents in the pure artistic atmosphere of the town of Kazanlak that has already established traditions in the area of art culture
